Music Over Mind
Healing Mental Health Through the Power of Music
What We Do
Music Over Mind (M.O.M.) deploys trained, professional musicians directly into hospital patient rooms, lobbies, and communal spaces to deliver live interventional music programming. Our musicians are not performers passing through — they are care-team adjuncts who read the room, respond to patient cues, and provide a non-pharmacologic tool for managing pain, anxiety, and mood.
Founded in 2010 and operating continuously for 15+ years across North Carolina, M.O.M. bridges the gap between evidence-based music therapy research and scalable, cost-effective hospital delivery.
Our Programs
DooR to DooR — Hospital Music Program
M.O.M.'s flagship bedside program, delivered in partnership with UNC Health across 11+ hospitals. A network of 300+ credentialed musicians visit patient rooms and shared spaces, bringing comfort and healing through live, personalised music.
Wellness HUB
Non-clinical music and wellness programming at the Wellness HUB in Raleigh, delivered in partnership with XDS, UNC Health, and Wake County. Serving community members, outpatients, and underserved populations with accessible, healing music experiences.
Institutional Performances
Curated performances and educational programming for academic medical centres and universities, including Elon University and UNC School of Medicine — integrating music-in-medicine into clinical education and campus wellness.
Clinical Evidence
The global music therapy market is projected to reach $6 billion by 2033, reflecting growing recognition of music's measurable clinical impact. Peer-reviewed studies consistently document reductions in pain scores, anxiety levels, and opioid usage, alongside improved patient-reported experience.
M.O.M.'s 15+ years of uninterrupted hospital programming across North Carolina — reaching tens of thousands of patients annually — provides the track record and operational infrastructure that new hospital partners can build on immediately.

What a Partnership Includes
Hospital and health system partnerships are tailored to your facility's goals, unit configuration, and patient population. A typical partnership delivers:
- Bedside music visits — scheduled rounds in patient rooms by a credentialed M.O.M. musician matched to unit type (oncology, peds, ICU, rehab, behavioural health).
- Lobby and communal space programming — ambient and interactive performances for waiting areas, family lounges, and staff common spaces.
- Staff wellness performances — dedicated sessions for clinical and non-clinical staff, supporting caregiver wellbeing and reducing burnout.
- Measurable patient experience outcomes — we work with your team to track HCAHPS-adjacent metrics so the programme's impact on patient experience scores is documented and reportable.
