Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Live Interventional Music?

Music Over Mind is a North Carolina-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit delivering live interventional music directly to patients in hospitals, clinics, and senior living communities — positioning music as a non-pharmacologic tool for pain management, anxiety reduction, and mood improvement.

How M.O.M. is different

Recorded playlists, music therapy, and live interventional music

Three related but distinct practices. The differences matter to clinicians scoping a partnership.

A recorded music playlist

A fixed, pre-curated set of tracks queued up on a device — useful in waiting rooms, but static. The same track plays for every listener regardless of how the room feels that day.

Board-certified music therapy

A clinical discipline delivered by credentialed music therapists (MT-BC) as part of a treatment plan. Music Over Mind musicians are not board-certified; M.O.M. is a complement to clinical care, not a substitute.

M.O.M.’s live interventional music

A trained M.O.M. musician in the room, selecting repertoire in real time in response to the patient, the room, and the care environment — responsive non-clinical music delivered bedside across 11+ UNC Health hospitals and partners.
